The 7AT352.70/PL3 belongs to the System 2003 Controllers series from B&R Automation. The unit is an analog input module that brings resistance-temperature detector signals into the controller backplane, allowing temperature feedback to be processed directly by the PLC without additional signal conditioning. Within an automation cell, it translates PT100 sensor values into digital data so the control program can monitor process heat, trigger alarms, or regulate heaters and chillers.
This module digitizes two independent channels with an A/D converter that operates at 20 ms when the mains frequency is 50 Hz and 16.67 ms when the mains frequency is 60 Hz, so cycle times remain synchronized with the power grid. Each conversion produces a 16-bit value, giving 65,536 discrete steps across the measurement range. Basic system error is limited to ±(0.17 + 0.0005 × TF) °C at 25 °C, combining offset and temperature-drift components for predictable accuracy. The board draws only 0.4 W from the internal supply, minimizing cabinet thermal load and permitting high-density I/O placement. Two front connectors accept field wiring, and the module remains passive because a fixed 2 mA measurement current is supplied to each sensor loop.
The temperature span extends from -200 °C up to +850 °C, matching the limits of the Class B platinum element listed in IEC/EN 60751. For wide spans, the controller records increments of 0.1 °C; in narrower application windows, it refines that to 0.01 °C to capture subtle variations. Wiring follows a 3-wire scheme that compensates for lead resistance without requiring a fourth conductor. Protection class IP20 permits installation in enclosed, ventilated panels, and conformance with the PT100 standard supports sensor interchangeability across vendors. All signals remain referenced to the shielded backplane, allowing the System 2003 base station to distribute conditioned temperature data to motion axes, safety interlocks, or recipe managers without additional hardware.
