The 7AF101.7 mounting carrier is produced by B & R Automation as part of the System 2003 Controllers series. Inside a control cabinet, it provides the mechanical support and backplane connection needed for CPU, expansion, and I/O modules to operate as one compact automation node. The carrier groups internal communication paths and field wiring on a single base, helping connected modules exchange signals reliably during sequence control, motion tasks, and general data handling. Because the modules plug directly into the carrier, the assembly stays compact and aligned while maintaining a short internal bus path between neighboring slices.
The board supports mixed controller families. It holds up to 2 modules from the CP430, EX270, and EX290 lines, and it accommodates 4 modules when CP470, CP770, CP474, CP476, CP774, EX470, EX770, EX481, or EX484 units are used. A single CP570 processor can be expanded to a total of 8 modules on this carrier, which allows higher channel density without adding an external rack. Backplane logic power draw is only 0.3 W, which helps limit heat inside the enclosure and leaves more supply capacity for connected devices. Protection is rated at IP20, so the carrier is intended for installation inside an enclosure where live parts and internal circuitry remain shielded from accidental contact and larger debris while still allowing normal convection cooling.
Diagnostic support is built in, and the front edge includes a status LED that gives quick visual feedback for attached modules. Four captive M4 mounting points provide 4 screw-in slots for fastening the carrier to DIN rail adapters or panel brackets while helping it remain secure under vibration. During operation, the indicator can show the operating state per module, making it easier to identify the affected section of a modular station without removing hardware. Within the System 2003 Controllers platform, the carrier uses the same addressing rules, wiring accessories, and configuration software as related units, so compatible modules can be arranged on the same base without changing the general accessory set or software environment.
