Product Description:

B&R Automation's HCMDISC40-1 is an external hard drive unit made for older storage systems. The hard drive unit is rated to IP54 and supports 220 VAC input. It supports certain media cartridge types and has a drive slot on the front panel. The unit has two channels, h0 and h1, that may be switched on and off.

The HCMDISC40-1 external hard drive unit incorporates a 5V and 12V capable Quantum ProDrive LPS 170 hard drive. A 40-pin IDE connector, standard on LPS models, connects the internal drive. An IEC 320 C14 connector accepts 220 VAC input and produces 5V and 12V as outputs from a multivoltage power supply unit (PSU). On the back, the drive unit contains a 50-pin Centronics connector in the form of SCSI, which is great for connecting to systems that use that standard, and another rectangular multipin port, which could be used for control purposes. Two switches, h0 and h1, placed on the back of the hard drive unit, enable SCSI address configuration and control device selection. There is a red power switch right next to the power input. The "h0/1" label on the front panel corresponds to the dual logical slot configuration, which allows for the management of two devices or channels. The system can be used for industrial automation frameworks' legacy data storage operations.

The HCMDISC40-1 hard drive unit has a housing with openings for air circulation that may be adjusted to suit the user's needs. In order to maintain a constant output voltage regardless of variations in the line voltage, the unit makes use of a power regulation circuit that incorporates large capacitors and a transformer. Consistent power delivery to electromechanical storage devices is supported by the drive unit, which also ensures compatibility with traditional SCSI protocols. This hard drive unit is ideal for integrating legacy drives into regulated storage operations.

Frequently Asked Questions about HCMDISC40-1:

Q: Does the HCMDISC40-1 utilize a Quantum ProDrive LPS 170 IDE or SCSI interface internally?

A: The internal Quantum ProDrive LPS 170 uses a 40-pin IDE interface. IDE compatibility ensures easier integration, straightforward maintenance, and allows broader compatibility with standard IDE-based legacy storage systems.

Q: Why does the HCMDISC40-1 incorporate a 50-pin Centronics SCSI-style connector at the rear panel?

A: The 50-pin Centronics connector facilitates legacy SCSI communication. It ensures compatibility with existing SCSI-based equipment, simplifies connection setup, and guarantees efficient, error-free data transfer across legacy systems.

Q: How does the rectangular multipin connector benefit HCMDISC40-1 in terms of connectivity?

A: The rectangular multipin connector enables advanced or proprietary control interfacing. It supports specialized system integration requirements, provides additional connection flexibility, and ensures compatibility with various proprietary external control devices.

Q: Does the HCMDISC40-1 power supply unit provide a stable voltage output under varying input conditions?

A: Yes, the multivoltage PSU provides stable 5V and 12V outputs. It ensures consistent power delivery, protects internal electronics, and accommodates varying input voltages without compromising storage device stability or performance.

Q: How does the ventilation system benefit the internal components inside the HCMDISC40-1 unit enclosure?

A: Ventilation slots ensure effective airflow control. Proper ventilation reduces internal heat buildup, maintains operational temperatures, extends component lifespan, and enhances long-term reliability of the integrated electromechanical storage components.
