Product Description:
The HCMCP2-0 is a communication co-processor module from the HCM Maestro series by B & R Automation. It is designed for PLC rack mounting and it offers both fieldbus as well as serial communication. This module is equipped with two ports labeled as IF1 and IF2 that supports RS-232 and RS-485 interfaces.
The HCMCP2-0 module uses the RS-485 port to allows integration into PROFIBUS DP networks and with external devices within the automation system. Its front panel includes status LEDs for RUN, ERROR and BUSY, along with Rx and Tx indicators for each serial port. This module provides configuration switches for setting the PROFIBUS node address and baud rate. The node address is configured using a 7-bit binary system and it supports a range from 1 to 126 while its baud rate settings include options from 10 kbit/s up to 500 kbit/s. This HCMCP2 module’s physical dimensions are 160 mm height, 60 mm width and a depth of 130 mm. It connects to the backplane through two multi-pin edge connectors that deliver both data and power. The HCMCP2 module’s typical power consumption is between 300 mA to 500 mA and it gets powered from the rack’s 5 VDC supply without the need for an external power source.
The HCMCP2-0 module uses passive cooling method and it does not come with a fan or heatsink for heat dissipation. Its built-in battery supports backup functions such as real-time clock or memory retention. The front panel features a reset button for module restart and its internal PCB is surface-mounted through hole components. The HCMCP2 module operates on a 68k based CPU using an OS-9 operating system and weighs about 0.45 kg. It allows data exchange between local controllers and remote field devices within Maestro-based systems.
Frequently Asked Questions about HCMCP2-0:
Q: How does the OS-9 operating system benefit the HCMCP2-0 module?
A: OS-9 offers real-time multitasking, which enhances the timing precision and reliability of communication processes in the HCMCP2-0 module.
Q: Why is RS-485 preferred over RS-232 for PROFIBUS DP on the HCMCP2-0?
A: RS-485 supports longer cable lengths and multi-drop configurations, which are necessary for PROFIBUS DP’s networked field device communication.
Q: How does the 7-bit binary node address system in HCMCP2-0 help configuration?
A: This system simplifies PROFIBUS addressing and allows quick binary switch settings for up to 126 nodes without needing software tools.
Q: What is the purpose of having separate Rx and Tx LEDs on each port?
A: These indicators provide real-time visual feedback for data transmission and reception, aiding in diagnostics and troubleshooting.
Q: How does the internal battery enhance the HCMCP2-0 module’s functionality?
A: It ensures memory retention and RTC (real-time clock) operation during power loss, maintaining system state and scheduling data.
