The HCMCIF2-0 module is a communication interface card built by B&R Automation for the HCM Maestro PLC Modules series. Once installed in a controller rack, it expands the connectivity of the Maestro processor and supports real-time data exchange between the PLC, distributed I/O stations, and supervisory computers in an automated production line. In industrial automation, it combines serial, fieldbus, and memory-card functions on one board so the central processor can route process data without requiring a separate external gateway.

The hardware provides 1 Arcnet interface, a token-passing connection that the Maestro CPU uses for deterministic I/O updates across coaxial or fiber segments. For removable program or recipe storage, the board adds 1 PCMCIA interface, allowing flash cards to be exchanged when application data must be transferred or retained. Compatibility with CP60/CP70 central processors means the card follows the same rack timing and power budget used by those CPU models. A single optically isolated port combines transmit and receive lines into 1 isolated RS232/RS485 interface, so either point-to-point or multipoint wiring can be selected in software. The card also includes RS485 network capability, with drivers that handle line biasing and automatic direction control without external transceivers.

Alongside those buses, the card offers a dedicated 1 RS232/TTY interface for service computers or operator panels that use current-loop signaling. By supporting the MCO motion controller, the module passes synchronized position data between the drive stack and the PLC scan with minimal delay. Classified as a PLC Bus Interface Module, it occupies a single slot on the system backplane and draws power directly from the rack.
