8MSC6X.R0-X4 is a surface cooled 8MS series AC servo motor. Its designer and manufacturer is B&R Automation. 8MS series industrial AC motors are available in self-cooled and fan cooled versions. Several additional options are available, include keyed and smooth shafts, holding brakes, and oil seals. Motors with oil seals belong to IP65 protection class, and motor without seals belong to IP64 protection class. Feedback options on these motors include resolvers and singleturn or multiturn encoders. The encoders are available with different specifications and interfaces. 8MSC6X.R0-X4 is motor with a resolver for real-time feedback. Precision of the resolver is ±10 angular minutes and its non-linearity is ±1 angular minute. Input to the resolver is one sinusoidal signal that serves as the reference. Its output consists of two sinusoidal signals with varying amplitude. As it is a servo motor, it does not operate independently.

Operators must deploy the motor in combination with an ACOPOS series servo drive. The drive supplies 3-phase AC power to the motor. Power required of the drive is 400/480 Volts (three-phase). Direct connection of 8MS motors to the AC mains is not permitted. The main shaft is smooth and there is no seal on it. The motor features a holding brake. Its specifications include 32 Nm holding torque, 1.6 kilograms weight and 5.56 kg cm2 moment of inertial. Specifications for the 8MSC6X.R0-X4 motor include 20.3 kilograms weight, 21.5 kg cm2 moment of inertia, 60 minutes thermal time constant, 4500 RPM nominal speed and 13 Nm rated torque.
