The 8MSA8X.E1-M2 is a three-phase synchronous motor manufactured by B & R Automation as part of the 8MS Three Phase Synchronous Motors series. It supplies regulated rotary motion for servo axes in packaging, material-handling, and light-assembly machinery. The motor converts commanded current from a compatible inverter into precise shaft torque for controlled positioning and speed regulation. Its compact housing and integrated feedback components allow direct installation without extensive auxiliary hardware, which helps conserve space around crowded machine axes and simplifies connections between the motor and drive.
Thermal management relies on a self-cooling design, so heat dissipates through the stator surface without external blowers or liquid circuits. The digital position sensor has a -3 dB bandwidth of at least 100 kHz, which helps limit phase lag in high-speed control loops. Inside the encoder, a glass disk with 512 lines is scanned optically to produce incremental data for velocity regulation after quadrature processing. Signals are serialized over the EnDat interface, reducing the number of conductors while supporting bidirectional diagnostic communication. The multi-turn encoder retains absolute position information through power cycles by tracking complete mechanical revolutions. An X motor-length code identifies the longer magnetic stack used in this configuration, which accommodates the motor’s intended output range within the available housing.
The feedback chain provides an absolute angular accuracy of ±60 arcseconds, supporting repeatable placement for indexing tables and articulated motion axes. The encoder recognizes up to 4,096 complete shaft revolutions without requiring a homing cycle, allowing equipment to recover its known position after an interruption. The unit has motor size 8, providing a larger magnetic cross-section for increased continuous output within the 8MS series. Its relative rated torque is classified as extra large, allowing the connected drive to command substantial acceleration while remaining within the motor’s thermal operating limits. The integrated feedback arrangement gives the controller the position and velocity data needed to correct motion as mechanical loading changes during a production cycle.
