The 8MSA8M.E1-B6 synchronous motor is produced by B & R Automation for the 8MS Three Phase Synchronous Motors series. This three-phase unit serves as a drive element in automated machinery that requires accurate speed control and repeatable positioning. By converting electrical power into synchronized rotary motion, it provides torque for conveyors, pick-and-place axes, and other motion modules used on manufacturing lines. The motor can be paired with a compatible servo drive to regulate acceleration, velocity, and shaft position under changing loads.
At a nominal rated speed of 3000 rpm, the motor operates within the velocity range commonly required by servo drives in packaging and assembly systems. Power and feedback conductors use a B-side cable exit, which simplifies cable routing when the motor is mounted with its shaft facing outward. Heat is removed through a self-cooling design, eliminating the need for forced ventilation. Position feedback is provided by an EnDat multi-turn encoder with an accuracy of ±60 arcseconds. The sensing head resolves signals up to 100 kHz before reaching the 3 dB attenuation point, while its absolute sensing capability preserves position information across multiple rotations. Motor size 8 and length code M provide a moderate housing envelope and medium relative rated torque for duties that do not require peak stall force. The shaft does not include an oil seal, so external sealing is necessary if the installation exposes the journal to oil or other lubricants.
A spring-applied holding brake rated at 130 Nm secures the rotor whenever power is removed, helping prevent drift in vertical axes and indexing stations. The encoder produces 512 lines per revolution for detailed position measurement during motion. Its electronic counting section distinguishes up to 4096 complete turns, allowing the control system to recover the absolute shaft position after a shutdown without repeating a homing cycle. A smooth shaft end supports low-backlash connections with precision clamping hubs or friction-fit pulleys. This interface transfers torque without a keyway and permits accurate alignment when the coupling is installed correctly.
