The 8MSA6X.E0-B500-1 is a three-phase synchronous motor built by B&R Automation for the 8MS Three-Phase Synchronous Motors series. Within an automation cell, it functions as the prime mover for axes that require consistent speed regulation and highly repeatable positioning. The motor uses a permanent-magnet rotor to convert current from a servo inverter into mechanical torque for conveyors, gantries, and compact machine modules. Its synchronous operation allows the connected drive to regulate shaft movement accurately as axis loads and motion commands change.
Mechanical integration is simplified because the power and feedback connectors exit on the B-side, keeping cables clear of the driven load. Heat is removed through a self-cooling system, so no external blower or liquid circuit is required. During continuous operation, the rotor can sustain 3000 rpm, supported by a frame with Motor Size 6 hardware and an elongated X length. The motor has an extra-large torque capacity, providing additional torque for acceleration events without requiring an oversized drive. A keyed shaft provides positive engagement with pulleys, couplings, or gearboxes. The absence of an oil seal minimizes shaft friction and makes the motor suitable for dry environments. The motor does not include a holding brake, so it requires no additional wiring for a brake release circuit. Once secured, the electrical connections remain clear of the surrounding machine envelope and help reduce interference with nearby moving components.
Position feedback is provided by a single-turn EnDat encoder that delivers 512 lines of incremental information. The feedback system maintains a bandwidth of up to 100 kHz at the -3 dB point, supporting rapid signal processing during short motion cycles. Angular error remains within ±60 arcseconds, making the encoder suitable for high-precision pick-and-place axes. Absolute position is available after power-up without additional multi-turn electronics or a separate homing movement. The encoder allows the servo drive to monitor rotor position and correct motion errors while the axis accelerates, runs at speed, or decelerates. Routine maintenance can focus on the electrical connectors and periodic inspection of the keyed coupling.
