The 8MSA6M.E1-X500-1 is a three-phase synchronous motor manufactured by B&R Automation within the 8MS Three-Phase Synchronous Motors series. In modern production cells, this type of motor drives indexing tables, gantry axes, and feed rollers where precise speed and angular coordination are required. The stator windings generate a rotating magnetic field that locks to the rotor magnets, allowing direct coupling to digital drives without mechanical gear reduction in many cases. By delivering stable torque across its speed range, the unit supports consistent machine operation and accurate motion under changing production demands.
Thermal management is handled by a self-cooling configuration, so the housing dissipates heat without external fans or liquid circuits. The integrated optical encoder has a -3 dB bandwidth of at least 100 kHz, allowing the controller to detect fine motion events at high shaft speeds without significant signal attenuation. Its base resolution of 512 lines per revolution yields 2,048 counts after quadrature decoding, providing accurate velocity feedback. Position deviation is limited to ±60 arcseconds, providing the precision needed for demanding pick-and-place or printing tasks. Feedback data and power are exchanged through the EnDat digital interface over a single shielded cable. This interface gives the connected drive access to the encoder data required for closed-loop position and speed control.
The encoder is a multi-turn type, meaning the controller receives absolute position information across as many as 4,096 mechanical revolutions. This capability allows the control system to retain the shaft position across multiple turns and eliminates the need for a homing routine after a power cycle. With a frame designation of 6, the motor fits medium-sized machine bays while leaving room for adjacent actuators and cable routing. Its construction follows length code M, providing a balanced relationship between the magnetic stack depth and rotor inertia for dynamic line-shaft applications. The motor has a relative rated torque class of medium, making it suitable for applications that need more force than compact servo motors but do not require the highest-torque units in the 8MS platform.
