The 8MSA5S.E3-D300-1 is a synchronous servo motor produced by B & R Automation within the 8MS Three Phase Synchronous Motors series. Designed for positioning and speed-regulated operation, the unit converts electrical input into controlled rotary motion for machine tools, packaging stations, and assembly axes. Its three-phase stator and permanent-magnet rotor provide rapid torque development. The integrated feedback interface enables closed-loop control through compatible B & R servo drives, allowing the controller to regulate shaft position and speed as operating loads change.
Under nominal operating conditions, the shaft turns at a rated speed of 3000 rpm, supporting common servo applications and straightforward gear selection. Position feedback is produced by a multi-turn encoder with EnDat Inductive scanning. The encoder has an analog bandwidth of at least 6 kHz at -3 dB, allowing the drive to track rapid command changes with limited phase lag. Each mechanical revolution is divided into 32 lines, and electronic interpolation refines those cycles to an angular accuracy of ±400 arc-seconds. Heat is removed through the self-cooling aluminum housing, eliminating the need for an external fan or liquid-cooling circuit. The power and sensor connectors exit from the top of the motor, which supports upward cable routing inside the machine. This connection arrangement can also help keep the cables clear of couplings and other components installed near the shaft.
The motor has a frame size of 5 and a compact rotor-stack length of S, providing a small relative rated torque within the series. The multi-turn electronics count up to 4096 complete revolutions before rollover, supporting machine cycles that do not require homing after every power cycle. Torque is transmitted through a keyed shaft end, which provides positive engagement with a compatible coupling, pulley, or gearbox input. The motor does not include an integrated holding brake, so stationary load retention must be supplied by the drive or an external braking device when required. It also has no oil seal and is intended for dry installations where the shaft interface is not exposed to leaking lubricant. The absence of internal slip rings helps preserve feedback signal quality during continuous rotation.
