Product Description:
The 8MSA5M.R0-D3 is a three-phase synchronous motor manufactured by B & R Automation within the 8MS Three Phase Synchronous Motors series. Designed to convert electrical power into controlled mechanical rotation, it serves positioning and speed-regulated axes in industrial automation equipment such as pick-and-place units and packaging machinery. The motor interfaces directly with B & R drive controllers, allowing deterministic torque delivery for cyclic or continuous-duty motion profiles.
The power and feedback leads exit from the top of the housing, which simplifies routing in cabinets where cables must rise toward overhead drag chains. A self-cooling design removes heat through the frame without external blowers, so the motor can be installed on moving carriages that lack forced-air ducts. Under nominal conditions, the shaft reaches 3000 rpm, giving drive designers a moderate base frequency for gearless coupling to conveyor rolls or ball screws. The electromagnetic package is classified in the medium torque class, balancing stall force against inertia for general-purpose duties. A keyed shaft transmits torque through positive mechanical engagement. The unit is supplied without a holding brake or an oil seal, making it suitable for dry, horizontally mounted axes where passive load retention and fluid exclusion are not required.
With a frame designated as size 5 and a frame length of M, the motor occupies a mid-range footprint that fits standard IEC flange patterns while still leaving room in compact machines. Position and speed feedback rely on a BRX resolver. Its carrier signal linearity stays within ±1′ of the electrical angle, and the system maintains a total precision window of ±10′ for consistent servo performance. This resolver arrangement tolerates ambient vibration and high rotational speeds, allowing the motor to deliver commanded motion profiles without signal dropout or recalibration cycles.
