The 8MSA5M.E0-B7 synchronous motor is manufactured by B&R Automation as part of the 8MS Three-Phase Synchronous Motors series. Designed for integration with the ACOPOS drive family, it converts three-phase electrical energy into precisely regulated rotary motion. The internal feedback system allows the drive controller to maintain tight velocity and position loops, making the unit suitable for conveyors, indexing tables, and secondary packaging machinery in automated production lines.
At its nominal operating point, the motor reaches a rated speed of 3000 rpm and is classified by B&R as having medium relative torque for this frame. The single-turn EnDat encoder provides an optical resolution of 512 lines. Its precision of ±60 arcseconds and bandwidth of at least 100 kHz at -3 dB allow the controller to detect fine position changes during rapid cycles. An integral holding brake delivers 15 Nm of torque to secure vertical or suspended loads when power is removed. Motor length code M balances torque capability against enclosure depth, while the size 5 stator cross-section keeps mass and inertia moderate for midrange axes.
Power and feedback conductors exit on the B-side of the housing, simplifying cable routing in line-mounted gantry axes. Heat is removed through a self-cooling aluminum frame, so no external fan or liquid cooling circuit is needed during continuous operation. The shaft has a keyed end for positive, slip-resistant power transmission to pulleys or gearboxes. The keyed connection also provides consistent mechanical engagement where changing torque could cause a smooth coupling to move. Because the motor is assembled without an oil seal, it should not be used where the shaft may encounter pressurized lubricant. The lack of an external cooling system reduces the space needed around the housing and leaves cable paths unobstructed. Its single-turn feedback provides position information within one mechanical revolution, while the holding brake prevents unintended shaft movement after drive power is removed.
