The 8MSA5L.R0-B6 is a three-phase synchronous motor produced by B & R Automation for the 8MS Three Phase Synchronous Motors series. As a servo-class drive element, the unit converts electrical energy into controlled mechanical rotation, allowing automation controllers to position shafts, linear actuators, or gear stages with repeatable accuracy. Its design, feedback device, and integrated brake make it suitable for indexing stations, packaging lines, and material-handling equipment where decentralized rotary motion is required. The motor can support precise speed and position control when paired with a compatible servo drive.
At a rated operating speed of 3000 rpm, the rotor can deliver torque without field weakening across most common drive topologies. Heat is removed through self-cooling, so no external fan or liquid circuit is needed, simplifying airflow planning around the motor. Motion feedback relies on a resolver, which provides the drive with the shaft angle and offers strong electromagnetic immunity in harsh industrial environments. This feedback method supports reliable commutation and closed-loop motion control without requiring an optical encoder. An integrated holding brake has a static capacity of 15 Nm, allowing vertical or intermittent-load axes to remain locked when power is removed.
Electrical and mechanical interfaces are arranged on the B-side, so power and feedback cables exit away from the main mounting face to reduce cable bend stress. The stator frame uses motor size 5 geometry and an extended L-length stack, increasing the available copper volume for higher continuous torque density. Position feedback accuracy is maintained because resolver nonlinearity does not exceed ±1 angular minute, enabling fine interpolation in servo loops. The motor has a large relative rated torque classification, which assists with drive sizing and the selection of protective components for demanding applications. A smooth shaft end allows the use of a clamping coupling rather than a keyed connection. The motor does not include an oil seal, so adjoining machinery must provide external sealing when protection against lubricant or contaminant entry is required.
