The 8MSA5L.E0-B4 is a three-phase synchronous motor manufactured by B&R Automation within the 8MS Three Phase Synchronous Motors series. The model serves as a direct-drive element for servo axes that require precise velocity and position control in automated production equipment. It accepts power from a matched inverter and produces constant torque across its rated operating range, allowing accurate indexing, coordinated motion, and repeatable cycle times in packaging, material-handling, and assembly applications. Electronic commutation supports responsive motion while avoiding the wear associated with mechanical commutators.
The motor has a nominal speed of 3000 rpm, which corresponds to its synchronous operating point when the supply frequency and internal pole count are matched. Rotor position feedback is provided by a single-turn EnDat encoder with 512 lines of incremental resolution. After interpolation, this resolution supports fine position control and accurate tracking of commanded motion. The encoder processes signal frequencies of at least 100 kHz (-3 dB), preventing rapid traverse movements from saturating the feedback interface. Angular accuracy is maintained within ±60 arcseconds, helping reduce following error in coordinated multi-axis systems. The digital connection transmits position and diagnostic data over a two-wire link without requiring separate Hall or commutation tracks.
Cooling relies on self-cooling, so the motor does not require an external blower or liquid cooling circuit.
