Product Description:
B&R Automation manufactures the 8MS Three Phase Synchronous Motors series for precision drive systems in factory machinery. The 8MSA5L.E3-B5 belongs to that series and is a three-phase synchronous motor intended to deliver repeatable position and speed control to gantries, packaging axes, and similar motion tasks. As an electromechanical actuator, it converts drive current from a servo inverter into controlled rotary motion while maintaining tight velocity regulation, and its self-contained housing simplifies installation inside distributed machine modules and reduces cabinet wiring requirements.
The motor’s continuous operating point is a rated output of 3.46 kW at 3000 rpm. At this speed, it can supply 40.5 Nm of peak torque for short overloads. A torque constant of 1.56 Nm/A relates inverter current directly to shaft torque. The windings show 1.55 Ω resistance and 14.6 mH inductance, which influence copper loss and current rise time. Because the unit is self-cooling, no external fan is required. Power and feedback connectors are positioned on the B side of the housing. Its size 5, length L geometry provides high rated torque, and the keyed shaft end mates with standard transmission components.
Dynamic response is set by a maximum rotational acceleration of 55479 rad/s², supported by a rotor inertia of 7.3 kgcm². The inductive EnDat multi-turn encoder supplies position data with a base resolution of 32 lines, tracks up to 4096 revolutions, and maintains ±400 arc-seconds precision while operating at frequencies of 6 kHz or higher at -3 dB. A voltage constant of 94 V/1000 rpm helps the drive predict back EMF. Because no holding brake is installed, external locking hardware must hold the axis during power loss. No oil seal is fitted, so the shaft zone needs separate splash protection. The keyed shaft and high acceleration support rapid index moves in packaging machines.
