The 8MSA4X.R0-67 belongs to the 8MS Three-Phase Synchronous Motors series manufactured by B & R Automation. It is a three-phase synchronous motor intended for industrial automation axes that require accurate torque and speed control. The motor has size 4 and length code X, providing the housing dimensions and active motor length associated with this model. It is supplied without a holding brake, so stationary loads must be secured by drive torque or an external mechanical device when necessary. The motor also lacks an oil seal, making external shaft protection appropriate in applications where contaminants or lubricants could reach the shaft opening.
The electrical and mechanical connections are arranged on side A of the housing, simplifying cable routing in tightly spaced machine enclosures. Heat produced by the stator is removed through a self-cooling design, so the motor does not require an additional blower or liquid-cooling circuit during its intended operation. At its rated speed of 4500 rpm, the motor provides an extra-large output torque category suited to demanding loads such as belt drives and indexing tables. Motor feedback comes from a resolver mounted in the rear end shield. Its noncontact design withstands vibration without relying on the optical components found in some encoder systems. The feedback package uses a resolver built according to the BRX standard, providing position information throughout a complete mechanical revolution. Its nonlinearity is rated at ±1 angular minute, supporting accurate interpretation of the rotor angle by the drive controller. The resolver has a resolution of ±10 angular minutes, allowing the controller to make precise velocity corrections during operation. Direct coupling between the resolver and rotor eliminates mechanical backlash from the position-reporting path. A keyed shaft prevents rotational slip between the motor and a compatible coupling, pulley, or other connected powertrain component. This positive mechanical engagement supports torque transfer when the axis accelerates, decelerates, or operates under a sustained load.
