The 8MSA4X.R0-30 is a three-phase synchronous motor produced by B & R Automation for the 8MS Three Phase Synchronous Motors series. In automated equipment, it turns PWM drive output into controlled rotation, delivering commanded torque and velocity to axes such as pick-and-place heads, feeders, or indexing tables. The resolver feedback loop built into this model is compatible with B & R motion controllers, allowing deterministic commutation and position control within industrial automation cells.
The power and signal connectors are arranged on the A-side, simplifying trunk-line routing along machine frames. Heat is removed through self-cooling; the housing’s surface fins dissipate losses without an auxiliary fan, so airflow around the enclosure must remain unobstructed. Frame code 4 indicates the stator diameter and bolt circle, enabling consistent mounting within the 8MS platform. Nominal operation reaches 3000 rpm, supporting high throughput in applications that require fast, controlled motion. For loads that demand rapid acceleration, the motor provides an extra-large relative rated torque, allowing smaller gear stages while still supporting short cycle times.
Rotor position is measured by a resolver. The internal BRX unit limits nonlinearity to ±1 angular minute and maintains total precision within ±10 angular minutes, supporting stable field orientation as temperature changes. The motor is supplied without a holding brake, so vertical axes must use external clamps when power is removed. Length designation X indicates the longest magnetic stack offered in this frame, raising continuous torque without altering the flange pattern. A smooth shaft end supports shrink-fit couplings and reduces fretting. Because no oil seal is installed, the mounting location should be kept free of coolant spray and abrasive dust.
