The 8MSA4S.R0-B5 is a three-phase synchronous motor manufactured by B&R Automation and assigned to the 8MS Three Phase Synchronous Motors series. In automated packaging cells, assembly stations, or palletizers, it acts as an electromechanical actuator that converts inverter output into precisely controlled rotation. Permanent-magnet excitation and sinusoidal commutation give the unit a fast torque response, while integrated feedback supplies rotor-angle information to the controller so motion sequences remain synchronized with process demands. Its compact form simplifies machine layouts and shortens cable runs when the motor is mounted on moving axes.
At a nominal rated speed of 3000 rpm, the motor reaches its standard operating velocity for servo applications. Heat generated during operation is handled by a self-cooling housing that relies on natural convection, so no external fan or liquid cooling circuit is required. Power, signal, and protective ground conductors are routed on side B, allowing the connections to remain away from the load-coupling face. Because the motor does not have a holding brake, the axis must be secured externally when power is removed. The small torque class indicates modest continuous torque relative to the 8MS size 4 frame, and the shaft exit does not include an oil seal. Position feedback is provided by a resolver, which supplies the controller with analog rotor-angle signals for closed-loop regulation.
The resolver installed in this motor belongs to the BRX family and provides linearity within ±1 angular minute. Its overall precision across the full electrical cycle is limited to ±10 angular minutes. These values represent the maximum position deviation that the drive may observe while closing the control loop at high update rates. Mechanical power is transmitted through a keyed shaft end, which supports secure engagement with standard pulleys or rigid couplings. The motor uses the geometry of an 8MS size 4 frame with a compact S length, reducing its mass and inertia for rapid acceleration on light-load pick-and-place axes.
