The 8MSA4S.R0-66 is a three-phase synchronous motor produced by B&R Automation within the 8MS Three-Phase Synchronous Motors series. It is intended for industrial automation tasks that require precise velocity regulation and rapid positioning. The motor connects directly to compatible drives and converts electrical commands into controlled rotary motion. Typical uses include moving conveyors, pick-and-place heads, and indexing tables in automated production equipment.
The motor operates at a nominal speed of 4500 rpm, supporting high-speed motion in applications with relatively low continuous torque requirements. Thermal equilibrium is maintained through self-cooling, so forced-air and liquid-cooling systems are unnecessary under suitable operating conditions. A compact size 4 frame combines with an S-length stator stack to create a short body that fits within confined machine spaces. Power and feedback cables use an A-side exit, simplifying routing when the associated drive equipment is located at that end of the machine. The smooth shaft accommodates press-fit or clamping couplings without requiring a keyed connection. Its low relative rated torque makes the motor appropriate for high-speed tasks where rapid acceleration is more important than sustained heavy loading.
Position feedback is provided by BRX resolver technology, which supplies the drive with rotor-angle information during acceleration, deceleration, and rapid reversals. Resolver nonlinearity remains within ±1 angular minute, while overall position accuracy remains within ±10 angular minutes. These tolerances support stable velocity regulation and accurate positioning during repetitive motion cycles. The unit is supplied without a holding brake, so stationary loads must be secured by drive-applied torque or an external clamping device. The shaft exit has no oil seal, making the motor better suited to clean, dry locations than areas exposed to oil, coolant, or other contaminants. Its compact housing and responsive motion characteristics support high-cycle packaging equipment, electronics assembly systems, and light material-handling machinery.
