The 8MSA4S.E3-D2 is a three-phase synchronous motor manufactured by B & R Automation as part of the 8MS Three Phase Synchronous Motors series. This motor is intended for positioning and speed-controlled applications in industrial automation where compact servo axes are required. Its frame uses motor size 4 with the short “S” length code, providing a moderate continuous torque profile suited to light material-handling stations and small packaging lines. The compact housing also allows the motor to fit into machinery with limited installation space while providing controlled rotary motion for repetitive processes.
The stator winding uses a self-cooling airflow path, so no external fan or liquid cooling circuit is needed to keep the temperature within permissible limits at the rated shaft speed of 3000 rpm. The feedback electronics support frequencies of at least 6 kHz at -3 dB, which allows fast signal processing with modern inverters. Inside the encoder, each mechanical revolution is divided into 32 lines. The motor does not include a holding brake, so stationary loads must be retained by drive torque or an external mechanism when necessary. It is also supplied without an oil seal and is intended for dry operating areas where liquid contamination at the shaft is not expected. Its relatively low rated torque suits indexing tables, pick-and-place heads, and other light-duty drives that require controlled acceleration and repeatable movement.
