The 8MSA4S.E2-73 is a three-phase synchronous motor produced by B & R Automation within the 8MS Three Phase Synchronous Motors series. It serves as a compact drive element that converts inverter power into controlled rotary motion for positioning tables, pick-and-place units, and other repetitive industrial axes. The unit is built to motor size 4 with an S-length housing, giving it a short overall envelope while still providing the torque needed for light to medium loads in automated machinery. That compact form helps the motor fit transfer stations and other machine sections where mounting depth is limited. It is suited to repetitive indexing and steady speed control in compact automation cells.
The motor uses a self-cooling housing, so heat is carried away through surface convection without auxiliary fans or liquid jackets. Its enclosure carries an IP65 rating, protecting internal windings from dust ingress and low-pressure water jets common on processing lines. Under nominal conditions the rotor reaches 3000 rpm, matching standard inverter frequencies for conveyors or tool drives. Position feedback is generated by an EnDat inductive single-turn encoder that communicates digitally with the drive, and its code disk provides 32 lines of base resolution before interpolation. Because the design is supplied without a holding brake, applications that need static torque must use external clamping or drive torque.
