The 8MSA4M.R0-44 is a three-phase synchronous servo motor built by B&R Automation as part of the 8MS Three Phase Synchronous Motors series. In automated machinery, the unit converts electrical input from a matched inverter into precise rotary motion, allowing positioning or speed regulation on packaging, handling, and processing axes. Its medium rated torque class places it in the mid-power segment used for moderate-inertia loads in general factory automation. The synchronous design enables the connected servo drive to regulate shaft position and velocity through a closed control loop.
Electrical performance centers on a nominal speed of 6000 rpm, allowing the drive to maintain high shaft velocity without additional mechanical gearing. Heat generated during operation is removed through a self-cooling airflow path in the stator, eliminating the need for an external fan. Power, feedback, and brake conductors exit on the A-side of the housing to simplify cable routing toward the control cabinet. An integrated holding brake supplies 8 Nm of static torque, preventing drift on vertical or indexing axes when power is removed. The frame is classified as Size 4, while the M length code keeps the overall motor depth moderate for compact mounting spaces. This housing arrangement provides room for the brake and feedback components without requiring a separate external assembly.
The motor uses a resolver feedback system from the BRX resolver family. Resolver nonlinearity is held within ±1 angular minute, while overall precision remains within ±10 angular minutes, providing fine position information to the servo drive without a digital encoder. The analog feedback signals allow the drive to monitor rotor angle continuously during acceleration, steady-speed operation, and deceleration. The motor has a smooth shaft end, so torque is transmitted through a clamping or shrink-fit coupling rather than a key. No oil seal is fitted, so the installation must remain protected from pressurized lubricant or coolant that could enter around the shaft. Appropriate coupling alignment also helps prevent unnecessary radial loading on the shaft and resolver assembly.
