The 8MSA4M.R0-32 belongs to the 8MS Three Phase Synchronous Motors series manufactured by B & R Automation. It is a three-phase permanent-magnet motor used to drive axes in automated machinery where coordinated motion and steady torque are required. By combining a compact frame with electronic commutation, the unit supports closed-loop speed control from modern servo drives and helps eliminate mechanical gear changes in material-handling, packaging, and pick-and-place stations.
Power and feedback conductors are routed on the A-side of the housing, simplifying cable routing when the motor is installed against machine plates. Thermal management relies on a self-cooling design, so no external fans or liquid jackets are necessary. An integrated holding brake clamps the rotor with 8 Nm of torque to keep vertical loads from drifting during shutdowns. The motor reaches a nominal speed of 3000 rpm, matching common servo inverters and allowing direct coupling to ball screws or timing belts. Within the 8MS family, it is classified for medium rated torque, and its size-4 stator stack with length code M balances continuous torque output with space constraints.
Position feedback is provided by a resolver, and its nonlinearity is held within ±1 angular minute while overall precision stays within ±10 angular minutes. These limits support fine position interpolation by digital drives without requiring an optical encoder. The installed sensor follows the BRX resolver standard used across B & R platforms, supporting compatibility with the appropriate servo amplifiers. A smooth shaft permits the use of press-fit couplings or shrink disks where backlash must be minimized. The shaft does not have an oil seal, which reduces drag and makes the motor suitable for dry-room or clean-line environments where the shaft operates with a separate bearing block.
