The 8MSA4M.E1-30 three-phase synchronous motor is produced by B & R Automation within the 8MS Three Phase Synchronous Motors series. As a rotary drive element, the unit converts inverter output into controlled shaft motion for packaging lines, pick-and-place modules, and similar automation tasks. The motor belongs to size 4 and length code M, giving it a mid-frame geometry that fits medium-power axes inside compact machine frames.
The unit supports a rated speed of 3000 rpm, allowing direct coupling to transmission stages that accept standard high-speed inputs. Heat is dissipated through a self-cooling design, so no external blower or liquid circuit is required. Its integrated EnDat encoder operates with a bandwidth of ≥ 100 kHz at −3 dB and delivers 512 lines per revolution. Sinusoidal interpolation supports positioning loops that require precise angular feedback. The sensor has a precision of ±60 arcseconds, while the absolute position system tracks 4,096 revolutions and retains position data after power loss. This capability allows the controller to resume operation without requiring a homing cycle.
The mechanical interface uses an A-side cable-gland orientation, which streamlines cable routing when the motor is mounted near machine sidewalls. Position data are retained by the multi-turn counting system, making the recorded shaft position available immediately after power-up. The rotor has a medium continuous-torque rating, making it suitable for mid-range axes that normally operate near nominal load. A smooth shaft end accepts clamp-style couplings without requiring a keyed connection. The motor is supplied without a holding brake, so an external mechanism or drive-applied torque must secure stationary loads when necessary. It also has no oil seal and is therefore intended for clean, dry environments where the shaft opening will not be exposed to lubricants or process fluids.
