The 8MSA4L.R0-32 is a three-phase synchronous motor developed by B & R Automation for the 8MS Three Phase Synchronous Motors series. It is intended for integration with servo inverters to drive positioning and speed-controlled axes in automated machinery such as pick-and-place stations, conveyors, and secondary packaging equipment. By supplying controlled electromagnetic torque without intermediate gearing, the motor supports precise, repeatable motion profiles in compact machine spaces.
The motor’s nominal operating speed is 3000 rpm, supporting fast cycle requirements while keeping iron losses moderate. Its motor size 4 provides a frame diameter that balances torque capacity and footprint, while its motor length L adds active stack height for higher continuous torque compared with shorter variants. Heat is removed through self-cooling, so no external blower or liquid circuit is required; ambient airflow over the housing is sufficient for rated operation. Cabling exits on side A of the stator, allowing predictable harness routing inside machine frames. The unit is supplied without an oil seal, so the mounting surface must prevent lubricant from reaching the bearing system.
A factory-installed holding brake supplies 8 Nm of static torque to prevent shaft rotation whenever power is removed. Feedback for servo regulation is produced by a BRX resolver. Its nonlinearity stays within ±1 angular minute, and the precision window is ±10 angular minutes, providing adequate resolution for general motion tasks. The shaft has a smooth cylindrical end that mates with compression couplings or pulley hubs. The motor is classified as having a large relative rated torque within the series hierarchy, making it appropriate for axes that require substantial torque in a compact installation. The holding brake can secure stationary loads when drive power is unavailable, while the resolver supplies the rotor position data needed for closed-loop control.
