The 8MSA4L.E3-D30C is a three-phase synchronous motor produced by B&R Automation and supplied within the 8MS Three Phase Synchronous Motors series. It converts electrical energy into mechanical torque for positioning and speed-regulated tasks in automated machinery. Rotary loads can be connected to the motor through suitable couplings or gearboxes. Its motor size 4 and length code L allow the housing to fit mid-frame machine installations where available mounting space may be limited.
The electrical terminals use a top-facing connection, which simplifies cable routing when the associated drive equipment is mounted below the motor. Thermal management relies on a self-cooling system that transfers operating losses through the housing without forced airflow. Under nominal operating conditions, the rotor reaches 3000 rpm, providing the base speed used for drive tuning and gear selection. The inductive EnDat encoder supports a feedback bandwidth of ≥ 6 kHz (-3 dB), allowing the control system to process rapid changes in rotor position. Its angular accuracy of ±400 arcseconds supports precise velocity and position control. Position information is measured by an internal disk with 32 lines, providing the feedback resolution required by the connected drive.
The motor uses a multi-turn encoder that counts revolutions through a geared sensor assembly and retains position information after power is removed. The encoder can track up to 4096 complete turns, eliminating the need for a homing cycle after a power interruption when the stored position remains valid. A keyed shaft provides positive torque transmission to a coupling, pulley, or gearbox input. Relative rated torque is classified as large, giving the motor a favorable torque-to-inertia ratio for rapid indexing applications. The motor does not include a holding brake, so stationary loads that could move after power removal require an external brake or another holding method. It is also supplied without an oil seal, so the installation should prevent oil from reaching the shaft interface when the surrounding machinery contains lubricated components.
