The 8MSA4L.E0-33 is a three-phase synchronous motor produced by B & R Automation for the 8MS Three Phase Synchronous Motors series. As a drive element, it converts regulated current from a servo inverter into mechanical rotation for positioning axes, conveyor segments, or packaging equipment. The product occupies size 4 within the platform and carries the L length code, providing a medium mechanical stack that balances continuous torque with installation depth in general-purpose automation lines. Its synchronous design allows the connected servo inverter to regulate shaft movement accurately as operating loads and commanded speeds change.
This model delivers a nominal shaft speed of 3000 rpm without forced ventilation because the stator uses self-cooling. Its integrated encoder supports carrier frequencies of ≥ 100 kHz at the −3 dB point, allowing the controller to sample position signals without excessive attenuation at high speed. The code disc provides 512 lines and yields 2,048 discrete increments per revolution after quadrature processing. Angular accuracy remains within ±60 arcseconds, supporting precise feedback throughout each rotation. This combination of encoder resolution, angular accuracy, and signal bandwidth supports responsive position and speed regulation in midrange servo applications.
A permanent-magnet holding brake rated at 8 Nm secures the load during emergency stops and power-off conditions. The brake is engaged by default, while the connection interfaces are located on the A-side to simplify cable routing inside the machine. Output torque is transmitted through a keyed shaft, allowing positive engagement with pulleys, couplings, or gearboxes. Position data are exchanged over the EnDat serial channel, and the encoder operates as a single-turn device, so it reports absolute position within one mechanical revolution. The assembly does not include an oil seal, which reduces shaft friction in applications protected from coolant spray and other liquids.
