B & R Automation manufactures the 8MSA3X.R0-B7 three-phase synchronous motor as part of its 8MS Three Phase Synchronous Motors series. The unit is intended for integration with servo drives to generate precise rotary motion in conveyor sections, pick-and-place axes, and packaging spindles. Its electromagnetic design supplies constant torque across the speed range, enabling repeatable positioning and cycle times that industrial automation lines demand. Because it is built for controlled servo operation, it can also be used where synchronized motion between multiple machine axes is important.
The motor’s nominal mechanical speed reaches 3000 rpm, a synchronous velocity that suits common tooling and transport applications. Heat generated in the stator windings is removed through self-cooling, so no external blower or coolant circuit is required. This arrangement also reduces the need for auxiliary cooling hardware around the motor. Position feedback is provided by a resolver, allowing the drive to track shaft angle even under high electromagnetic interference. During power-off, a spring-applied brake supplies 4 Nm of static holding torque to keep vertical or suspended loads from drifting. Up to 200 N of axial force may be applied to the shaft during installation without exceeding the bearing load guideline.
The motor uses size 3 with internal length code X, a combination that balances output torque against overall package depth in tight machine compartments. Power and feedback connectors are mounted on side B, enabling cable routing parallel to linear axes. This layout helps when the motor is mounted near slides or guarding where rear clearance is limited. Drive torque is transmitted through a keyed shaft end, and the relative rated torque is extra-large, indicating a high continuous torque-to-frame ratio. Because no oil seal is fitted, the shaft must remain in dry zones. Resolver nonlinearity is rated at ±1 angular minute, and total precision is within ±10 angular minutes for the BRX resolver variant.
