The 8MSA3X.R0-42 is a three-phase synchronous motor manufactured by B&R Automation for the 8MS Three Phase Synchronous Motors series. This brushless unit converts regulated inverter output into rotary motion for gantries, indexing tables, and other servo-driven axes. Its permanent-magnet rotor and electronic commutation deliver constant torque over a wide speed range, supporting accurate positioning and speed regulation in production lines, packaging equipment, and robotic peripherals where compact, maintenance-friendly drives are required.
The motor has a size 3 frame and an elongated stack identified by motor length X, which increases the active magnetic volume for higher torque production. Under nominal conditions, the rotor reaches 6000 rpm, a speed that must be supported by the connected drive for field-oriented control. Thermal management relies on self-cooling, so airflow around the housing dissipates iron and copper losses without auxiliary fans or liquid jackets. Power and feedback conductors exit on the A-side, simplifying cable routing when the motor is mounted in tight machine compartments. The motor has an extra-large relative rated torque, indicating a torque constant suited for accelerating loads with high inertia.
During installation, an axial preload of up to 200 N can be applied to the shaft without affecting the bearings. Position feedback is handled by a BRX resolver, which maintains nonlinearity within ±1 angular minute and absolute accuracy within ±10 angular minutes. This feedback gives the drive controller sufficient resolution for electronic commutation and closed-loop velocity control during precise machine movements. The shaft has a smooth end that accommodates clamping couplings and other keyless connection methods. The motor is supplied without a holding brake, so an external mechanism must secure a stationary load when drive torque is unavailable. It is also supplied without an oil seal, requiring a separate sealing element when the installation must prevent oil or other fluids from reaching the shaft opening.
