The 8MSA3S.R0-31 synchronous motor is manufactured by B & R Automation as part of the 8MS Three Phase Synchronous Motors series. Designed for motion control systems, it converts three-phase supply power into controlled mechanical rotation for indexing tables, light conveyors, and pick-and-place modules. Integrated resolver feedback allows the drive controller to evaluate rotor position so that automated equipment can maintain repeatable speed and position profiles during continuous operation.

At a nominal speed of 3000 rpm, the motor can meet cycle-time requirements without an external gearbox. Heat is removed through a self-cooling housing, eliminating the need for an auxiliary fan. Encoder feedback is delivered by a resolver, and all power, signal, and protective conductors exit on the A-side, which simplifies cable routing. During installation, the shaft may be pushed or pulled with up to 200 N of axial force. Observing this limit helps prevent bearing damage when couplings are mounted. The unit is supplied without a holding brake, so any static load must be secured by the drive or an external clamp. It is also supplied without an oil seal for applications where additional protection against contamination is not required.

The shaft has a keyed end that provides a positive drive connection to a compatible coupling or pulley. With a small relative rated-torque category, the motor is intended for lightly loaded axes where dynamic response is more important than high continuous torque. Resolver nonlinearity is limited to ±1 angular minute, while overall resolver precision remains within ±10 angular minutes. The BRX resolver type supports these feedback tolerances during closed-loop operation. The motor has a frame size of 3 and a compact S-length housing, allowing installation in machines with limited depth while maintaining the clearance needed for self-cooling airflow.
