The 8MSA3S.R0-30 is a three-phase synchronous motor manufactured by B&R Automation and supplied under the 8MS Three Phase Synchronous Motors series. It converts drive inverter output into controlled torque for axes that require repeatable positioning or constant speed. The motor is intended for packaging machines, pick-and-place gantries, and indexing tables where electronic commutation and resolver feedback close the servo loop and reduce mechanical gearing complexity.
During installation, the power and feedback connectors are oriented on the A-side, so cable routing follows a single plane along the machine frame. Thermal energy is removed through self-cooling, allowing operation without external fans or liquid jackets. The rotor has a nominal speed of 3000 rpm, which suits common inverter-controlled motion applications and simplifies gearbox selection. A permissible axial force of 200 N can be applied to the shaft while fastening couplings or pulleys without harming the bearings. The motor has a smooth output shaft, eliminating keyway stress and favoring clamp collars for torque transfer. It is supplied without a holding brake, so vertical loads must be secured by other means when power is removed.
Position feedback is provided by a resolver using the BRX format, and its nonlinearity remains within ±1 angular minute, ensuring minimal phase error between electrical and mechanical angles. The resolver also has an overall precision of ±10 angular minutes, supporting tight loop gains in high-response drives. The motor has a small relative rated torque, so mechanical transmission ratios may be adjusted to meet load requirements without oversizing the drive. Size code 3 sets the stator diameter for medium-power duties, while length code S shortens the magnetic stack to reduce the required installation depth. There is no oil seal at the shaft, so the installation area must be protected from lubricant splashes and airborne contaminants.
