The 8MSA3S.EI-30 is a three-phase synchronous motor manufactured by B&R Automation within the 8MS Three Phase Synchronous Motors series. Designed for closed-loop drives on packaging lines, pick-and-place axes, and other motion modules, the unit converts electrical power into precisely timed mechanical rotation for positioning and velocity control. Its rotor-stator design provides consistent torque throughout its intended operating range, making the motor suitable for servo amplifiers that require accurate feedback and rapid acceleration. The compact design also supports installation in automated machinery where available mounting space is limited.
Electrical connections are routed on the A side, simplifying cable entry when the housing is mounted against a machine wall. Heat is removed through a self-cooling airflow path, so no external fan or liquid circuit is required to keep the stator within its thermal limits. Under nominal conditions, the rotor reaches 3000 rpm, allowing direct coupling to moderate-inertia loads in many motion applications. The motor is delivered without a holding brake; therefore, any static load must be secured by the drive or an external mechanical brake when power is off. During installation, the shaft can withstand an axial force of up to 200 N, allowing secure coupling without damaging the bearing set. This axial load limit should be observed when fitting couplings or other driven components to the shaft.
The motor has length code S, indicating a short magnetic stack that keeps its overall mass low for high-dynamic axes. Its size 3 frame establishes the flange and pilot dimensions used for mounting the motor to compatible machine surfaces. The motor has a relatively low rated torque, making it suitable for high-speed duties where continuous torque demand is modest but rapid acceleration is important. Torque is transmitted through a smooth shaft end, which eliminates keyway stress concentrations and permits the use of friction-fit couplings such as clamp hubs or shrink discs. The motor does not have an oil seal, which reduces shaft drag but leaves the front bearing less protected against lubricants and contaminants. Applications that expose the shaft area to liquids or airborne debris may require additional external protection around the coupling interface.
