The 8MSA3S.E1-32 is a three-phase synchronous motor produced by B&R Automation for the 8MS Three Phase Synchronous Motors series. As a compact rotary actuator, it converts drive current into controlled torque for positioning tasks on conveyors, pick-and-place stations, and other motion axes in automated machinery. This model is built on the size 3 frame with the short S length, giving machine builders a narrow unit that integrates easily into tight mechanical spaces.
The motor reaches a nominal speed of 3000 rpm, allowing direct coupling to gearless applications that demand moderate output velocity. Heat is removed by a self-cooling design, so no external blower or liquid circuit is required. Feedback accuracy is supported by an optical encoder that generates 512 lines per revolution using the EnDat digital interface. The drive therefore receives high-resolution position data with strong resistance to analog noise. A permanent-magnet rotor is held in place by an integrated holding brake that delivers 4 Nm of static torque, preventing load drift whenever power is off. Mechanical mounting is simplified because all power and feedback conductors exit on the A-side of the housing. The smooth shaft end eliminates keyway balancing issues during high-speed operation.
The encoder has multi-turn capability and tracks shaft position across as many as 4096 revolutions, so absolute position remains available after resets or power outages. Signal quality is maintained with a bandwidth of at least 100 kHz at the -3 dB point, which keeps phase lag low in high-speed control loops. During installation, the motor can tolerate axial forces up to 200 N without bearing damage. The permitted precision of 60 arc seconds supports repeatable indexing in packaging lines. An oil seal is not fitted, so the shaft should remain in clean, dry environments where additional protection against fluids is unnecessary.
