Product Description:
The 8MSA3S.R0-44 is a three-phase synchronous motor produced by B & R Automation for the 8MS Three Phase Synchronous Motors series. The device serves as a servo-class prime mover, delivering controlled torque and speed to gantries, pick-and-place heads, and indexing tables in automated equipment. Integrated with a compatible drive, it provides closed-loop motion that keeps acceleration, settling time, and positional accuracy within machine design tolerances. Its compact housing allows installation close to the load, which can reduce coupling length and limit added compliance in the mechanical train.
With motor size 3 and length code S, the unit fits applications that require relatively small continuous torque output in a compact package. A nominal speed rating of 6000 rpm supports high cycle rates, while the self-cooling design removes heat through the frame without external air or liquid. A factory-installed holding brake provides 4 Nm of static torque to keep a vertical or unpowered axis in position when motion is stopped. Position feedback is provided by a resolver, and its nonlinearity is limited to ±1 angular minute, which helps the drive maintain stable electrical angle tracking during interpolation and vector control routines.
Additional limits apply to mounting and coupling. During installation, the shaft can accept up to 200 N of axial load, which helps prevent excess bearing preload when pulleys or couplings are fitted. The resolver uses the BRX format, which offers good resistance to electrical noise, and it maintains a maximum absolute accuracy window of ±10 angular minutes. Power and feedback connectors are oriented on the A side to streamline wiring in line-mounted assemblies. The shaft is supplied with a smooth finish for clamp or shrink-fit connections, and no oil seal is fitted, so external sealing is needed in lubricated or contamination-prone environments.
