The 8MSA3M.E1-D3 is a three-phase synchronous motor produced by B&R Automation for the 8MS Three Phase Synchronous Motors series. It operates as a servo-class prime mover in machinery that requires precise speed and position control. Direct integration with compatible motion controllers allows the motor to support closed-loop operation in automated equipment, positioning systems, and other motion-controlled machinery.
The power and feedback conductors have a top-exit orientation, simplifying cable routing in cabinets with overhead ducting. Heat is removed through self-cooling, which uses the surface area of the motor housing and eliminates the need for an external fan. Position feedback is supplied by an EnDat interface with a carrier frequency bandwidth of at least 100 kHz at -3 dB, helping preserve signal fidelity at high rotational speeds. The encoder provides an angular accuracy of ±60 arcseconds and resolves each mechanical revolution into 512 lines of incremental data. Its EnDat interface transmits absolute position data and drive parameters over a bidirectional digital connection without separate SSI wiring. This feedback arrangement allows the connected drive to monitor shaft position while regulating speed and torque throughout the operating cycle.
The encoder uses a multi-turn counter that records as many as 4,096 revolutions, allowing the system to retain position information after a loss of power. The shaft permits a maximum axial installation force of 200 N, helping protect the bearings while a coupling or pulley is fitted. Continuous operation is supported at a nominal speed of 3,000 rpm, which is suitable for many medium-inertia servo axes. The motor has a size 3 frame and an M length code, providing a medium relative rated torque for general-purpose drive applications. Its keyed shaft end provides positive torque transfer to pulleys, gearboxes, or rigid couplings. The motor does not include a holding brake, so static loads must be retained by drive-applied torque or a separate mechanical lock. It also does not have an oil seal, making external sealing necessary when the shaft area may be exposed to oil or other lubricants.
