The 8MSA3L.R0-30 is a three-phase synchronous motor manufactured by B&R Automation for the 8MS Three Phase Synchronous Motors series. It transforms electrical power into controlled rotary motion for axes that require repeatable speed or position control in assembly cells, packaging equipment, and light machining stations. An integrated resolver supplies the rotor angle to the drive, so no external encoder is needed for closed-loop regulation. This arrangement allows the connected drive to monitor shaft movement and adjust motor current in response to changing loads. The permanent-magnet synchronous design also supports responsive acceleration during repeated machine cycles.
The motor reaches a nominal speed of 3000 rpm, aligning with many mid-range spindle and conveyor requirements. Heat is removed through a self-cooling system in which rotor-induced airflow passes through the stator laminations. Power and feedback leads exit on the A-side, allowing parallel cable runs when multiple motors are installed end to end. Frame code 3 indicates the outer diameter, while length code L extends the active stack to increase continuous torque relative to shorter versions. The unit is supplied without a holding brake, so an external method must secure loads that could move after motor power is removed. It also lacks an oil seal, requiring suitable external protection when the shaft is exposed to lubricants or other fluids.
During assembly, the shaft may be loaded axially up to 200 N, helping protect the bearings from damage when couplings are pressed onto the shaft. A smooth shaft supports backlash-free clamping hubs or interference-fit pulleys. The motor has a large relative rated torque, providing higher stall output than smaller frames in the same series. Position feedback relies on a resolver with nonlinearity limited to ±1 angular minute, while overall precision remains within ±10 angular minutes. The sensing element is the manufacturer’s BRX model, which produces analog sine-cosine signals compatible with standard resolver interfaces. These signals allow the drive to regulate rotor position accurately when it supplies holding current instead of relying on a mechanical brake.
