The 8MSA3L.E0-32 is a three-phase synchronous motor produced by B & R Automation within the 8MS Three Phase Synchronous Motors series. It is intended for use as a compact rotary actuator in machine modules that demand coordinated motion. A compatible servo drive can deliver regulated torque and speed to tooling, feeders, or small transfer axes in automated assembly and packaging lines.
Cabling enters on the A-side, so power and feedback conductors are routed from that face of the housing. Rotor heat is removed through self-cooling, eliminating the need for forced air or liquid circuits. Position feedback is handled by a single-turn encoder that resolves the shaft angle into 512 lines. Its differential outputs maintain accuracy at frequencies of at least 100 kHz (-3 dB). Incremental positions are indicated with a precision of ±60 arcseconds, supporting tight velocity loops during interpolation. The EnDat protocol combines digital data transfer with automatic identification, simplifying communication between the encoder and drive. A smooth shaft end mates with clamping hubs without requiring keyways. The assembly has motor size 3 and length code L, providing a compact housing with an extended motor length. An oil seal is not fitted, so the mounting interface must remain free from splash-borne contaminants. The motor has a large relative rated torque, indicating a higher continuous torque index than smaller frame versions.
A mechanical holding brake generates 4 Nm of torque when the inverter is disabled. It secures vertical or suspended loads and helps prevent unintended shaft movement while the drive is inactive. The rotor can withstand installation thrusts of up to 200 N along its axis without affecting bearing life. This axial load capacity accommodates the forces applied during coupling installation when the motor and driven equipment are aligned. During operation, the motor reaches a nominal speed of 3000 rpm, supporting medium-inertia motion profiles in automated machinery. The converted output from the servo drive regulates the motor independently of the standard 50 or 60 Hz frequency supplied to the drive system.
