Product Description:
The 8MSA3L.E0-31 is a three-phase synchronous motor manufactured by B & R Automation as part of the 8MS Three Phase Synchronous Motors series. Designed for industrial automation, the unit converts electrical energy into controlled mechanical rotation for positioning tasks and continuous-duty drives. Its design supports integration with compatible B & R motion control components, including drives used to regulate motor speed, torque, and position in automated machinery.
At nominal load, the rotor reaches a rated speed of 3000 rpm, and heat is removed through self-cooling airflow over the stator housing, so no external blower is required. The connection hardware is mounted on the A-side, allowing the power and feedback conductors to be routed conveniently through confined machine spaces. Position feedback is supplied by an incremental encoder with 512 lines. Its analog bandwidth remains flat up to at least 100 kHz (-3 dB), providing sufficient response for high-speed servo control loops. The mechanical envelope has size code 3 and length code L, while a keyed shaft end transfers torque directly to pulleys or couplings. Its large relative rated torque allows this frame to provide more continuous torque than smaller models in the same range. The motor is supplied without a holding brake, so an external holding method may be needed when a stationary load must remain secured after power is removed. The output shaft does not include an oil seal and should be protected from applications where lubricant or liquid could reach the bearing area.
Precise motion control is supported by an angular encoder accuracy of ±60 arcseconds, and the digital EnDat protocol transmits position data to the controller. The single-turn encoder reports absolute position within one mechanical revolution, making it suitable for rotary axes that perform a homing procedure at startup. During installation, the shaft can withstand an axial force of up to 200 N without damaging the bearings. This axial load capacity accommodates forces that may occur while mounting a coupling or positioning a pulley on the keyed shaft.
