Internal Product Review
The 8MSA2X.R0-42 is a B & R Automation three-phase synchronous motor with self-cooling and a 6000 rpm rated speed. BRX resolver feedback and ±1 angular minute non-linearity provide impressively stable position sensing for precision motion tasks. Extra-large rated torque makes the unit an excellent fit for demanding dynamic servo axes.

Product Description:
The 8MSA2X.R0-42 is a three-phase synchronous motor manufactured by B&R Automation as part of the 8MS Three Phase Synchronous Motors series. Designed for demanding motion axes in packaging, assembly, and material-handling equipment, the motor converts variable-frequency power from a matched servo drive into controlled torque and speed. Its permanent-magnet rotor and precisely wound stator form an electromechanical unit that supports rapid acceleration and repeatable positioning in modern automation lines. The motor is suitable for machinery that requires responsive speed control and accurate movement under changing loads.
At a nominal speed of 6000 rpm, the rotor can operate continuously without thermal derating when the rated current is supplied. Heat is removed through a self-cooling aluminum frame, so no external fan or coolant circuit is required. All signal and power leads exit on the A-side, simplifying cabinet layouts that favor single-direction cable routing. During installation, the shaft may be pressed or pulled with up to 200 N of axial force, protecting the bearing set while couplings are fitted. Position and velocity feedback are provided by a resolver, which supplies angle information across the full speed range. The motor is supplied without a holding brake and incorporates a smooth shaft end for backlash-free clamping couplings.
The mechanical outline corresponds to Size 2 of the platform, while the extended length code X increases the active iron length for higher torque density. This geometry supports the motor’s extra-large relative rated torque classification, making it suitable for axes that must overcome high inertia or cyclic peak loads. Feedback accuracy is supported by the manufacturer’s BRX resolver, which has nonlinearity limited to ±1 angular minute and a precision tolerance within ±10 angular minutes. These feedback characteristics help the connected servo drive monitor rotor movement during rapid acceleration, deceleration, and positioning cycles. Because the housing does not include an internal oil seal, an external sealing solution is required when the motor is installed near pressurized fluids or abrasive contaminants. The smooth shaft allows the use of clamping couplings where a keyway is unnecessary, while the extended motor body provides additional active material for demanding motion profiles.
