Product Description:
The 8MSA2S.R0-J2 is a three-phase synchronous motor developed by B&R Automation as part of the 8MS Three Phase Synchronous Motors series. With frame size 2 and the compact “S” length configuration, it fits drive stations where space is limited while still delivering high dynamic response for packaging, pick-and-place, and light machining equipment. It is supplied without a holding brake, so external locking or servo clamping must be provided when power is removed. The motor has a small rated torque classification that suits low-inertia loads in high-cycle applications.
During installation, the motor can absorb axial forces up to 200 N, and all cabling exits on the B-side, simplifying access in tight enclosures. A self-cooling airflow path removes heat without auxiliary blowers, while the housing and shaft seals provide an IP65 ingress protection rating that blocks dust and water jets. Under nominal conditions, the rotor reaches 6000 rpm, allowing the drive controller to command high linear velocities when the motor is coupled to belts or ball screws. This operating speed is supported by an internal winding designed for the continuous torque range of the frame. The resulting thermal performance helps limit winding temperature during sustained operation without adding a separate cooling system.
Position feedback is provided by a resolver based on the BRX design. Its electrical nonlinearity remains within ±1 angular minute, and its absolute accuracy remains within ±10 angular minutes across the full operating temperature range. A factory-installed oil seal maintains enclosure protection at the shaft exit and helps prevent contaminants from reaching the bearing area. The smooth shaft permits the use of press-fit couplings or clamping hubs without requiring a keyway. Resolver feedback supplies the drive with rotor position information for electronic commutation and closed-loop motion control. The shaft arrangement also supports compact coupling installation where radial clearance around the motor is limited.
