The 8MSA2L.R0-44 is a three-phase synchronous motor produced by B&R Automation for the 8MS Three Phase Synchronous Motors series. As a compact rotary actuator, it converts drive inverter output into precise mechanical rotation for positioning axes, feeders, and other motion tasks in automated equipment. The design follows the series sizing system, in which frame size 2 and length L indicate the active stack height and footprint, allowing machine builders to match torque requirements without changing mounting patterns.
The motor reaches a nominal speed of 6000 rpm, so axis controllers can obtain high cycle rates while staying within standard inverter frequency limits. A factory-installed holding brake supplies 1.8 Nm of static torque to secure vertical loads or maintain position during a power loss. The housing uses self-cooling to remove heat without an external blower, simplifying the machine layout. Rotor feedback comes from a resolver sensor, which provides analog sine-cosine signals that remain stable in electrically noisy environments. Power and feedback connectors are oriented on the A-side, allowing cable ducts to run parallel to the machine frame and reducing cable bending during axis motion.
During installation, the shaft can accept up to 200 N of axial force, allowing compatible press-fit couplings or belted drives to be used without damaging the bearings. A smooth shaft speeds connection to clamping hubs when backlash must be minimized. The resolver maintains linearity within ±1 angular minute, and its internal design uses the BRX type code, allowing the drive to interpret position with predictable gain and phase offset.
