The VSS112Q21.052P-000 is a smart sensor from B&R Automation in the 8I6 ACOPOS Inverters series. It belongs to the Smart Sensor product group within the Integrated Machine Vision range. The unit combines an imaging module, optics, onboard processing, and multicolor lighting in one housing, allowing a machine controller to run an active vision function without an additional PC or frame grabber. In automated production lines, the sensor can detect part presence, verify orientation, and perform basic measurement tasks. Inspection results are transmitted directly to the control network for use in coordinated machine operations.

The imaging system captures scenes at a resolution of 1.3 MP and a frame rate of 90 fps, providing the temporal and spatial detail needed for fast pick-and-place and inspection stations. A dual-core Cortex-A9 i.MX6 processor performs image preprocessing at a clock frequency of 800 MHz. Its 512 kB L2 cache supports efficient handling of filter operations and image data. System memory totals 1 GB, providing temporary storage for multiple image buffers and classification data during operation. The standard preprocessing profile balances processing speed with power consumption. The sensor does not support line-scan operation, UV illumination, or type 1 LED lenses.

Illumination is supplied by a 16-LED ring with four segments of four multicolor LEDs each. The LEDs emit red, green, blue, and lime light through a type 2 LED lens, enabling the lighting color to be adapted to different surfaces and inspection targets. A glass window with a polarizing filter helps suppress glare from reflective materials and improves image consistency. The fixed viewing angle is 37°, providing a field of view suited to medium working distances. The sensor uses a 12 mm F4 2/3-inch lens installed in an S-mount holder. This optical arrangement provides a fixed focal geometry for applications in which the sensor position and target distance remain consistent during operation.
