The 8EI8X8HWT10.0100-1 servo drive is produced by B&R Automation and belongs to the 8EI Servo Drives series. Within the ACOPOS P3 8EI product family, this module supplies closed-loop control for brushless servo motors on production lines, pick-and-place gantries, and packaging machines. By integrating power electronics, encoder evaluation, and safety circuits in one housing, the drive reduces cabinet space and simplifies wiring for multi-axis systems. Its function is to convert the plant’s three-phase AC supply into the regulated currents and voltages required for fast, precise industrial motion. This arrangement supports coordinated motion across several machine axes while keeping the drive hardware centralized in the control cabinet.
Each axis can continuously deliver 8.8 Aeff, allowing medium-frame motors to run at rated torque without thermal derating. The incoming supply may lie anywhere in the wide 3× 200-480 VAC range, so the same hardware can operate in both low- and high-voltage regions. This unit is a 3-axis module, meaning one frame carries three fully independent inverter sections that share a common DC bus. Operator safety is addressed through a hardwired STO safety channel that cuts motor energy within milliseconds. Mechanical installation is straightforward because the heat-sink surface is prepared for wall mounting, so DIN rail adapters are not required. The housing ships without a front cover.
The drive platform is scalable, with a 1-axis module option for single motors and a 2-axis module option when paired drives are required. Field wiring is consolidated on a single 2-row connector set, and Connector Set 1, the older one-row variant, is not used on this version. Energy produced during deceleration is routed to the external DC link because there is no internal braking resistor. An external resistor or active front end is used to absorb returned energy during braking.
