The 8EI017HWS10.0200-1 servo drive is produced by B&R Automation within the 8EI Servo Drives series. As part of the ACOPOS P3 8EI servo drive platform, it regulates synchronous or induction motors used in machine tools, packaging lines, and robotic stages. The drive converts three-phase mains power into controlled motor current while processing encoder feedback from the connected axis. This arrangement provides precise velocity, torque, and position control within automated production cells. Its single-drive architecture is suitable for machines in which each motor requires dedicated power regulation and feedback processing.
The drive accepts a supply of three-phase 200–480 VAC, enabling installation on a broad range of industrial power systems without external transformers. Under continuous load, it delivers 17 A RMS to support medium-frame motors that require steady torque. The unit is a one-axis module, dedicating its power and feedback channels to a single motor. Field wiring is consolidated through a Connector Set 1 with a one-row header, which helps reduce cabinet depth and organizes electrical connections. Functional safety is provided by hardwired STO safety technology with encoder monitoring. The STO circuit removes torque-producing energy from the motor while encoder signals remain available for the associated safety functions. This approach supports controlled machine shutdowns without relying solely on upstream power isolation.
The enclosure supports wall mounting, allowing the drive to fasten directly to a panel backplate. Natural airflow moves from the bottom toward the top of the housing to carry heat away from the electronics, so the installation must provide adequate vertical clearance. The electronics use the standard configuration without module-specific options, leaving the baseline control and connection arrangement unchanged. The drive is supplied without a plug-in module, and any required expansion hardware must be selected separately. Because the unit does not contain an internal braking resistor, applications with regenerative loads require suitable external braking equipment. External brake choppers or resistors must be selected according to the motor load, duty cycle, and amount of energy returned during deceleration. Proper panel spacing also helps prevent heated exhaust air from entering nearby components and supports stable operation under continuous load.
