The 8EAC0122.003-1 encoder interface module is produced by B & R Automation for the 8EI Servo Drives series. Mounted next to the power stage, it samples resolver feedback so the drive can close accurate position loops on connected servo axes. By handling angle conversion inside the rack, the board reduces external cabling and supports tightly synchronized motion sequences in assembly, packaging, and material-handling equipment. Its role is limited to feedback processing, so it supports motion control without adding separate external conversion hardware.
The interface digitizes sine and cosine waveforms with a 16-bit ADC, giving 65,536 discrete angle steps per revolution. A carrier frequency of 10 kHz keeps excitation above audible ranges while remaining manageable for the DSP. Line pairs tolerate up to ±12 V common-mode disturbance, and differential routing protects all three resolver inputs from conducted noise. Encoder monitoring is active, so open-circuit or short-circuit faults are reported immediately. The excitation stage can source 50 mAeff and normally delivers 3 Veff, matching standard rotor coils. Even at full load, the board draws only 1.5 W, easing thermal design in dense cabinets. Overall height is 82 mm and depth is 103 mm. The single-row connector set and front cover are omitted, while a two-row header is installed. Because the card processes only feedback, no internal braking resistor is required.
Field wiring attaches to a 8-pin female Mini I/O socket that clicks into the drive backplane without tools. Shielded twisted pairs may be run up to 100 m so remote motors can report position without repeaters. At just 24 mm wide, the card fits within mounting slot 1 and leaves airflow gaps between neighboring modules, while a mass of 127 g minimizes stress on lightweight DIN-rail frames. The module ships in the standard option package and maintains differential signal transmission from the resolver coils through to the controller.
