The 8EAC0122.001-1 is a compact interface module released by B&R Automation for the 8EI Servo Drives series. Installed beside the power stage, it conditions encoder feedback, supervises position measurement, and forwards differential signals to the drive controller. This arrangement allows servo axes to be synchronized in industrial handling, packaging, and assembly lines.
This model samples analog encoder signals with a 16-bit converter, giving fine velocity and position granularity. A depth of 103 mm allows dense cabinet layouts while leaving clearance for airflow. The excitation winding of the transducer is driven at 10 kHz, which places the carrier frequency above mechanical resonance for cleaner demodulation. Signal pairs may float up to ±12 V in common-mode voltage, and staying within that range prevents saturation of the differential receivers. Encoder leads can extend to 100 m without repeaters, allowing remotely mounted motors to remain within the supported cable length. The card provides encoder monitoring, is short-circuit protected, and has an input impedance of 10.4 kΩ − j8 kΩ, which limits load on the sensing element. No internal braking resistor or front cover is installed, because both features are handled elsewhere in the drive cabinet. Position resolution follows the motor’s pole-pair count and the electronic interpolation used by the module.
The I/O channel sources up to 50 mAeff, which is adequate for standard incremental encoders, and the entire board consumes only 1 W, minimizing thermal rise inside sealed enclosures. With a mass of 123 g and a width of 24 mm, the module fits narrow mounting spaces without extra support hardware. A two-row connector set is provided for fast ribbon attachment, while the one-row variant is omitted to avoid pin-count limitations.
