The 8DI440.DA0220400-1 is a synchronous servo motor manufactured by B & R Automation for the 8DI ACOPOS Motors series. It supplies precise rotary positioning while remaining compatible with the ACOPOS drive platform and the hardwired safety architecture common to B & R-controlled systems.
The encoder system uses EnDat 2.2 serial communication and delivers 524,288 position values per revolution, allowing high-resolution feedback for tight velocity loops. Positional deviation under reference conditions is limited to a maximum of ±65 arcseconds, supporting applications that require fine angular repeatability. A nominal mechanical speed of 2200 rpm is the upper continuous operating point. The motor uses an inductive operating principle for position sensing. Module size code 4 and module length code 4 establish the frame envelope so the unit can connect to standardized gearbox flanges. A factory-installed holding brake secures the shaft during power loss, and configuration version 1 indicates the initial release for this model.
Functional safety is handled at the encoder level through a single-turn functional safety design and at the drive interface through hardwired safety technology. The rotor can withstand an axial load of 2300 N, while the housing tolerates a maximum shock acceleration of 2,000 m/s². The housing also withstands vibration levels of up to 200 m/s² from 10 to 200 Hz and up to 600 m/s² from 200 to 500 Hz. A smooth shaft end simplifies coupling to the driven equipment. The shaft has no special option or oil seal fitted, which reduces the number of associated maintenance parts. An additional POWERLINK connection is not included because network communication is handled through the primary ACOPOS interface.
