Product Description:
The 8BVI0880HWS0.004-1 is a servo controller from B&R Automation and belongs to the 8BVI Servo Controllers series. It conditions a shared DC link and generates three-phase output for synchronous motors. This allows coordinated motion axes in packaging lines, metal-cutting machines, and other automated equipment. It is intended for applications that require fast response to changing load conditions and synchronized axis movement. Its design supports precise torque and speed control during continuous machine operation.
The drive can deliver a continuous phase current of 88 Aeff, allowing large torque production without overheating, while its thermal design supports a sustained mechanical output of 64 kW. For rapid accelerations it tolerates a peak phase current of 176 Aeff, giving extra thrust during short dynamic moves. A regulated DC link of 750 VDC feeds the internal inverter, and this high voltage keeps cable currents low while minimizing conduction losses. The power stage modulates up to 598 Hz at the motor terminals so high-speed spindles can run well above standard line frequency. Pulse-width modulation is executed at a nominal carrier of 5 kHz, striking a balance between current ripple and switching losses inside the IGBTs.
Motor holding is assisted by a brake channel that supplies 4.2 A continuously at 24 VDC, and the companion brake output voltage is regulated to +5.8% tolerance to suit spring-applied clamps. A link capacitor of 1980 µF stores energy from regenerative events and smooths bus fluctuations, supporting stable operation when multiple axes decelerate simultaneously. The housing carries an IP20 rating, so it is intended for closed control cabinets with forced ventilation. Two plug-in slots accept option boards for encoder interfaces or fieldbus adapters, and protection of external sensors is aided by a 250 mA fuse on the 24 V output. The controller measures 213.5 mm wide, 317 mm high, and 263 mm deep, and its 25 VDC ±1.6% logic supply keeps control electronics isolated from the power stage.
