Product Description:
The 8BVI0055HCDS.000-3 is a dual-axis servo controller produced by B&R Automation as part of the 8BVI Servo Controllers series. It manages the DC link and gate signals for connected motors so that velocity, torque, and position profiles can be executed with deterministic timing in automated machines and robotic stations. Through the automation bus, the unit sends feedback data to PLC systems while issuing synchronized drive commands. Its dual-axis design allows two coordinated motors to operate from one compact controller, reducing the amount of cabinet space required for multi-axis motion systems.
The power section is rated for a continuous output of 5.5 kW and an RMS phase current of 7.6 A. Transient loads can draw up to 18.9 A for rapid acceleration. Pulse-width modulation operates at 5 kHz, producing a maximum fundamental output frequency of 598 Hz for high-speed servo motor operation. Two brake channels provide a regulated current of 1.1 A each to external holding brakes, enabling independent braking for both controlled axes. The controller uses 23.5 µF of input capacitance to buffer the rectifier section. Its two motor axes can be assigned to separate linear or rotary stages, while standby power loss remains at 11.3 W during idle operation.
Energy in the intermediate circuit is supported by a 330 µF DC-bus capacitor, which works with an internal resistance of 0.5 Ω to damp line transients. During shutdown, a discharge network with a capacitance of 0.2 µF and an extinction energy rating of 1.5 Ws helps remove residual charge before service. When mounted in a cabinet, the controller has a frontal width of 53 mm and a vertical height of 317 mm. The narrow housing supports high-density stacking with neighboring drive modules. External brake resistors or additional capacitor banks are not required for the described configuration.
